We are thrilled to share that our colleagues from the Centro de Oncologia dos Açores (COA) actively represented the CancerWatch JA at the 4th edition of the S3 SUMMIT: Smart Specialisation Strategy!

Held from May 27 to 29 on the beautiful São Miguel Island, the summit brought together researchers, policymakers, and innovation stakeholders under the vital theme: “Outermost Regions – Territories with a Future?”

𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙩 𝙉𝙊𝙉𝘼𝙂𝙊𝙉
During the dedicated session for research and innovation projects at the NONAGON – Science and Technology Park – São Miguel, the COA team presented the core mission of CancerWatch. As an affiliated entity of Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto (IPO-Porto), COA is playing a pivotal role in the Azores by working to enhance the quality, timeliness, and harmonization of cancer registry data feeding into the @European Cancer Information System (ECIS).

A standout moment of the event was when João Macedo presented the project’s strategic objectives directly to the Vice-President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Artur Lima, who showed great interest in how CancerWatch is preparing regional registries for the future European Health Data Space (EHDS).

This year’s S3 Summit focused heavily on promoting projects funded by key programs like #EU4HEALTH, Azores 2030, Interreg MAC, and COMPETE 2030, underscoring that geographical isolation is no barrier to world-class health innovation.
