The Future of Cancer Data: A Look at the 25th AIRTUM Scientific Meeting

We are delighted to share a glimpse of the 25th AIRTUM Scientific Meeting, the leading event for cancer registration and epidemiology in Italy!

In a special session, international experts shared their perspectives on the importance of international collaboration to understand and compare the burden of cancer between countries and regions. This can only be done using high quality, comparable and timely cancer registry data.

Organized by the Italian Association of Cancer Registries (AIRTUM), this year’s meeting was dedicated to a crucial theme: “AIRTUM in support of all stakeholders for the quality of the National Cancer Registry”. It emphasized the role of the Registry as a fundamental instrument for planning interventions in cancer prevention, diagnosis and clinical governance.

The three-day program included in-depth discussions on the most pressing challenges in cancer epidemiology and data science, such as:
• The implementation of artificial intelligence (AI), data governance and privacy protection in cancer registration.
• Harmonization of tumour classification and integration with European registries.
• Analysis of survival, social inequalities and gender vulnerability among cancer patients.
• New studies on occupational cancers and the “One Health” approach to prevention.
We look forward to connecting with epidemiologists, clinicians, researchers and public health stakeholders as we work together to harness the power of cancer registry data and demonstrate their impact.
