We are thrilled to share that our Scientific Coordinator, Gijs Geleijnse, took the stage at the landmark IARC@60 “Cancer Research into Action” Conference in Lyon!
Representing the CancerWatch JA during the “Cancer Surveillance in the 21st Century” session, Gijs delivered a compelling presentation titled: “๐พ๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ โ ๐๐ค๐ง ๐ฉ๐๐ข๐๐ก๐ฎ, ๐๐๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ช๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ฎ ๐๐ช๐ง๐ค๐ฅ๐๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ง ๐ง๐๐๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ง๐ฎ ๐๐๐ฉ๐.”
In front of a global audience of epidemiologists, researchers, and policymakers, he highlighted how CancerWatch is uniting 91 organizations across 29 European countries to build a sustainable, automated, and high-quality infrastructure for population-based cancer registries.
Key takeaways from his intervention focused on:
Moving from fragmented regional setups to a unified, high-quality data ecosystem.
How faster, harmonized data pipelines spark new insights into cancer trends and emerging risk factors.
Turning numbers into evidence-based public health policies that will ultimately improve and save lives.
Progress is a collaborative effort! Pictured below, Gijs joins an incredible panel of international experts (Les Mery, Marion Piรฑeros, Max Parkin, Heba Fouad. MD, PhD, Yek-Ching (Stella) Kong) driving global cancer surveillance forward. Connecting research with real-world public health impact is at the very heart of what we do.
A huge congratulations to Gijs and the entire session panel for lighting the way toward the future of data-driven cancer control!
