ISSalute is an innovative portal created by the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS). It was conceived in 2017 by Professor Walter Ricciardi, President of the ISS at the time, in collaboration with Sir Muir Gray, Professor of Knowledge Management at the University of Oxford and creator of the NHS Choices website.

ISSalute was created to provide citizens, in simple language that everyone can understand, regardless of their level of education or technical or scientific expertise, with up-to-date, independent, and certified information on lifestyle, nutrition, the environment, diseases and disorders, their causes, and available treatments.

Furthermore, to debunk many health-related “hoaxes” and false myths, a dedicated, constantly updated section contains misleading information accompanied by scientific explanations demonstrating its groundlessness.

All content published on ISSalute has been created by the Editorial Board, composed of ISS researchers and technicians, and has been evaluated and approved by the Scientific Committee, made up of Senior Investigators from ISS Departments and Centers, in collaboration with selected experts both within the ISS and externally.
