The Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Coimbra Francisco Gentil, E.P.E. (IPOCFG, E.P.E.) is a hospital unit that is part of the healthcare network of the National Health Service and the Type A platform of the oncology hospital referral network, giving it leading responsibilities in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer throughout the Central Region, with an estimated population of two million.
The publication of Decree-Law No. 93/2005 of June 7th transformed the institution’s legal status, which became a public business entity (E.P.E.), replacing the previous status that granted it the status of a public limited company (S.A.). Decree-Law No. 233/2005, of December 29, approved the corresponding bylaws and made this transformation effective December 31, 2005.
The institution’s leading position in the oncology hospital referral chain provides it with a remarkable concentration of differentiated technological and human resources. It currently has approximately 1,000 employees.
