The Norwegian Institute of Public Health is a government agency under the Ministry of Health and Care Services. Our employees are located in Oslo, Bergen, Levanger, Tynset og Trondheim. Our vision: Better health for all
The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) has a central role in national and global health preparedness and as a knowledge provider to the health system. Emergency preparedness is performed in close collaboration with national and international authorities, and scientific communities.
The NIPH is the national infection control institute, with associated functions and responsibilities. This includes responsibility for the purchase, storage, distribution and follow-up of vaccines in the immunisation programmes.
As part of their role as a knowledge provider in the health system, the NIPH supports the Ministry of Health and Care Services, the Directorate of Health, the Directorate for e-Health, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, the Norwegian Environment Agency and other national and local authorities and services with relevant knowledge. This means that the NIPH compiles and disseminates information about health-related topics for use in knowledge-based practice and public debate.
The NIPH monitors developments in public health and the healthcare services, provides education within relevant subject areas, disseminates knowledge and participates in global health projects.
The NIPH operates and develops a modern infrastructure for knowledge, including health data and digitalisation.
