The Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, with over 85 years of history, has become Slovenia’s leading institution in oncology, dedicated to advancing cancer control across the nation. At the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, we care for approximately 70 % of all cancer patients in Slovenia. Committed to quality, excellence, and a holistic approach, we aim to provide every patient with the best possible care. Our medical teams, made up of skilled professionals from various disciplines, strive to deliver top-tier, multidisciplinary healthcare while supporting patients at every stage of their journey.
Today, the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana functions as a comprehensive oncology center, responsible for cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, holistic rehabilitation, and palliative care. As the central oncology institution, we oversee the balanced and well-coordinated development of oncology across Slovenia. Education and research play a vital role in our mission, serving as key pillars that allow us to generate and share knowledge.
Since 1950, the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana has actively monitored the external landscape in which it operates by managing the Cancer Registry of Slovenia (RRRS), national clinical registries for several of the most common cancers, and the Institute’s hospital registry, which provides detailed insights into patients treated at our institution.
We are also responsible for the National Cancer Control Programme, through which we guide the development of cancer care across the country, ensuring the highest possible standards of quality and professionalism, with equal access for all patients. Our main objectives are to slow the rise in cancer incidence, reduce cancer mortality, improve survival rates, and enhance quality of life for oncology patients.
